November 14
Some things you inherit. Some things you choose. Some things become your voice.
At its core it explores the idea of daughterhood. Not only in the literal sense of being someone's daughter, but as a relationship to family, lineage, community, place, history, culture, memory, and change.
The project asks what we inherit, what we carry, what we reject, what we transform, and what eventually becomes our own voice. A daughter can be a daughter of a family, a neighborhood, a culture, a musical tradition, a generation, or of history itself. Someone shaped by what came before her who is now deciding what comes next.
Daughter does not present one version of womanhood or one shared experience. Its strength comes from bringing together artists at different stages of life and career, with different backgrounds, sounds, and relationships to the idea.
The November 14 broadcast introduces Daughter through live performance, artist storytelling, and collaboration. Five artists. One night. Rhythm & Rise Live carries the broadcast, and within it Daughter functions as the CAKE-led creative activation.
The work continues past that night through writing, recording, collaboration, artist development, and further public activations, building toward an Austin-based live music experience and release event.
CAKE is the organization. Daughter is the art.
Each artist sits for a recorded conversation about where her voice comes from, what she shed, and what she chose to keep. Those conversations play alongside the performances.
The broadcast streams on every Rhythm & Rise Live channel at the same time. No ticket, no login, no cost.
